Bellevue College is hosting the 2015 Washington Two-Year College Mathematics Conference at Campbell's Resort on Lake Chelan.
The conference dates this year are Thursday evening, April 30 through noon on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
We will have food, ongoing rounds of talks, a Lady of the Lake cruise on Lake Chelan Friday night after the Keynote Speaker, prizes, hikes in the surrounding countryside, parties and more.
Sign up and have educational fun with your colleagues from the 34 Washington and Technical colleges as well as folks from surrounding states and from local 4-year institutions.
The Keynote Speaker this year will be Frank Morgan, Atwell Professor of Mathematics at Williams College. His research interests include geometric measure theory and minimal surfaces.
He co-authored a proof of the truly beautiful Double Bubble conjecture, that the minimum-surface-area enclosure of two given volumes is solved by three spherical patches meeting at 120-degree angles at a common circle.
Frank Morgan is past vice-president and fellow of the AMS, past vice-president of the MAA, founded SMALL (one of the largest and best-known summer undergraduate Math research programs), and is an avid dancer.
He recently posted the following on his blog:I've spent Fall 2014 of my sabbatical year from Williams College at Berkshire Community College as Visiting Professor (teaching developmental algebra) and Special Assistant to the President. I went because I had gradually come to feel that community colleges are where education meets the future, with the full diversity of students of all ages, backgrounds, interests, histories, part time and full time, soon to comprise a majority of all American college students.
Professor Morgan's talk promises to be one to remember.
Our location this year is at Campbell's resort, located in the middle of the picturesque town of Chelan, on Lake Chelan and surrounded by vineyards and mountains.
Our Program is now available!!!! Click here for the pdf version!
We have a large block of rooms reserved for us at Campbell's Resort (phone 1-800-553-8225) and have negotiated a pretty good room rate with them. The Campbell's people will want to know you are with us when you reserve your room, and you have to call to get into that block of rooms. The group room reservation code is 304307. If you wish to stay beyond Saturday, our group rate will continue to apply.
Online registration is not available after April 15. On-site registration is $200 and a guest registration may be added on-site for $150.
Registrants and guest participants will get name tags, a bag containing various conference-related paraphernalia. Due to the notification requirements of the caterer we cannot guarantee the availability of a banquet meal and a Saturday box lunch for on-site registrants and their guests. Complimentary items also may not be available for on-site registrants.
